Women’s Storytelling & Writing Circle 2- Motherhood & Care

  • Maine Afro Yoga Project 1129 Broadway South Portland, ME, 04106 United States (map)

Our gathering turns toward the theme Motherhood & Care — honoring the many forms that care takes in our lives. Mothering is not limited to those raising children; it can mean nurturing a friend, tending to community, carrying ancestral wisdom, or caring for oneself with intention. For some, it may mean holding grief, absence, or stories of what might have been.

This circle invites participants to reflect on how giving and receiving care shapes identity, strength, and survival. Together, we will name mothering in its broadest sense — as love, labor, sacrifice, creativity, and resilience.

Through guided writing prompts, we will ask:

  • What does “mothering” or “care” mean in your life?

  • How have you been shaped by the ways you have cared for others, or been cared for?

  • What untold truths about mothering, or about the absence of it, live in your story?

After quiet writing time, those who wish may share their words aloud, creating a collective witness for truths often left unspoken.

Why It Matters
Mothering and care are forces that shape the world, whether expressed through children, kinship, friendship, activism, or self-healing. By telling these stories, we affirm that care in all its forms is powerful, complex, and worthy of honor.

Goal: To create space where every woman — whether a mother, not a mother, or somewhere in between — can express how care has shaped who she is.
